To embark on a medical career in the Army is to choose a path that takes you far beyond what you might expect to find in the civilian world.
For starters, you’ll serve and practice best-in-class, evidence-based medicine with exceptional teammates in remarkable places worldwide.
Better still, your service will immediately and profoundly impact the millions of beneficiaries who depend on the Army for their medical care.

Military Service + Experience

Medical professionals already seek to help and heal their communities. Practicing medicine in the Army expands this sentiment to the global stage, where cutting-edge tools and research are paired with the chance to protect, support, and sustain our nation’s service members (and their families) who have committed their lives to the service of the nation.

Leadership

Army Health Professionals enter service as officers, which means they’re specially trained to serve as Army medical leaders who provide training, direction, and guidance to those under their supervision. Pairing this leadership with practicing medicine is unique to the Army. It can often help strengthen a civilian career after the service commitment has ended. But beyond that, every day as an Army officer is a chance to improve leadership skills and benefit the lives of others, all while in the service of a cause that’s bigger than any one individual.

Education + Advancement

A career in Army Medicine will afford you and your family a number of educational benefits during or after service. At a glance, educational benefits include paying for your schooling and opportunities for advanced training. Beyond that, these benefits may also include advanced military promotions, awards and recognition, high-level security clearance possibilities, and new connections that rival what you expect at traditional colleges and universities.

Travel + Exploration

With Army bases and research facilities around the globe, there are plenty of opportunities to travel and experience everything the world has to offer. As a Health Professional in the Army, in addition to practicing medicine at home or abroad using some of the most advanced tools and technology, you’ll also grow as a person as you experience new cultures and flourish outside your comfort zones.

Humanitarian Efforts

Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the United States and worldwide are central to many missions that Army medical officers could undertake during their tenure.

This work could include providing life-saving assistance to the victims of earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. Opportunities also include working hand-in-hand with federal agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations (UN), and other national and international centers.
